Demonstrative Pronouns
In English, demonstratives are: this and that. This is a near demonstrative. That is a far demonstrative. They can be used either as attributive adjectives (this house) or on their own (this is beautiful).
In Koine Greek, there is also a near demonstrative - οὗτος. And a far demonstrative - ἐκεῖνος. They can also be used either as an attributive adjective or on their own (substantive use). If they are used as an attribute, they however take the predicate position (i.e. not between the noun and the article). For example, τούτον τόν λόγον - this word (in the accusative). When they are used on their own, it is sometimes good to translate them to English by supplying additional words, like in the case of substantive adjectives. For example, ταύτα - these things.
