Third Declension

The third Declension is the final pattern of declension in Greek. It contains nouns of all genders: Masculine, Feminine & Neuter. This declension has considerably more variations as compared to the 1st and 2nd Declensions. It is also often the case, that the root of Third declension nouns changes a bit as the nouns decline. Hence, it is important to take notice of the Genitive Singular form listed in the dictionary entry. Here are some of the most frequent Third Declension nouns.

However, the third Declension nouns use the same article as all other nouns. Hence, if they have an article, one can parse them by parsing the article.

One can also derive a generalized pattern of the endings that are often used for the Third Declension nouns.

There are a few classes of Third Declension nouns that can be mentioned.
